International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) 2019
The JDPC Lagos joined the global campaign to mark the 2019 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW), themed: ORANGE THE WORLD: GENERATION EQUALITY STANDS AGAINST RAPE at the Holy Family Event Centre, Festac Town, Lagos. The event kick started with a rally to sensitize the public about the need to end rape and all other forms of Sexual/Gender Based Violence. 1,000 persons were sensitized through the rally and received informative flyers. The main event was the colloquium which featured presentations on: Causes, Consequences and Pathways to Eliminating Gender Based Violence; Igniting Conversations on the Role of Men and Boys in Combating the Scourge of Sexual/Gender Based Violence; and Understanding the nexus between Sexual/Gender Based Violence and Irregular Migration. The presentations were delivered by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Ukwandu, a Clinical Psychologist and Catholic Priest; Ms. Margaret Ukaegbu, South-West Zonal Director of National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Dr. Kemi DaSIlva-Ibru, Founder of Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF).
